On October 26th and 27th, the Annual Baltic Military History Conference 2023 entitled "Military Thought and its Transformation in the Newly Independent States of Europe in 1918–1940" was held at Athena Centre in Tartu, Estonia.
The Conference focused on the military concept and its changes, mainly in those European countries born in the wars of freedom and independence that followed the First World War.
This year, it brought together Military Historians from Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, the Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, and Estonia.
The Conference's theme was derived from the Estonian Defence Academy's three-year research project, "Estonian Military Thought in 1920-1940", which ends next year and is funded by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Estonia.
As part of the conference, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Estonia and the Estonian War Museum presented the Hendrik Sepp Prize to the author of the best monograph and article on Estonian Military History published last year.
The Annual Baltic Military History Conference 2023 is organised by the Estonian War Museum, the Baltic Defence College and the Estonian Defence Academy. This year it was the 13th Annual Baltic Military History Conference of the Baltic Defence College and the 14th International Military History Conference of the Estonian War Museum - General Laidoner Museum.
The articles prepared based on the Conference presentations will be published in the Yearbook of Estonian Military History, which the Estonian War Museum publishes in cooperation with the Tallinn University Publishing House.
